“We cannot make events. Our business is wisely to improve them.” ― Samuel Adams
Why “Sons of Liberty?”
Our name pays homage to the spirited origins of American resistance—and to the central role alcohol played in that story. In colonial times, before clean drinking water was a given, spirits were more than just a pleasure—they were a necessity. By the late 1700s, early Americans were already well-acquainted with their version of the cocktail.
Then came the taxes. After a string of costly wars, the British Crown sought to pad its coffers by taxing everyday imports like tea and sugar—a key ingredient in rum, the drink of choice across the colonies. Prices soared. Tempers flared.
Enter John Hancock: patriot, smuggler, and owner of a ship called The Liberty. When British authorities seized the vessel for dodging taxes, Boston erupted. Tensions escalated. A British MP dismissed the protestors as nothing more than “these sons of liberty.” The name stuck—and the movement grew.
By 1773, under the leadership of Samuel Adams, the Sons of Liberty were throwing tea into Boston Harbor in one of the most iconic acts of rebellion in American history. Fun footnote? That same ship was also carrying a large cache of rum. It’s said the tea went overboard, but the rum… found safer hands.

“I have been here quite a few times now. The atmosphere is inviting and I love the decor. I haven't had a bad meal and recently tried their fish and chips with an ice cold beer. Both were delicious. Many beer choices to choose from. The service was great. I never had to ask for anything. I will be back!”
